A white kitchen on Curaçao — how do you keep it beautiful?

White kitchens are timeless and light-reflecting — perfect for our sunny homes. But the Caribbean climate brings challenges that are less of an issue in the Netherlands. Here are our 7 tips from years of experience.

1. Choose the right shade of white

Pure white (#FFFFFF) yellows faster under UV exposure than softer whites such as shell white, alpine white or cream. Our Cameo Country in shell white still looks beautiful after 10+ years. We don't recommend pure matte white for homes with direct sun exposure.

2. Anti-fingerprint coatings — Nobilia has this as standard

Handleless kitchens attract fingerprints, especially in a humid environment. Nobilia's LASER series has a special coating that repels marks. Schüller offers it as an option — on the island we always recommend it.

3. Daily: microfibre cloth, no scouring sponges

A lightly damp microfibre cloth picks up 90% of everyday dirt. Scouring sponges create micro-scratches that yellow over time.

4. Weekly: pH-neutral cleaner

Specifically for matte-lacquered fronts: aggressive cleaners attack the coating. A pH-neutral kitchen spray (HG Schoon or Mr. Proper Pure) is enough.

5. Annually: silicone seal check

Silicone seals between worktop and wall can discolour from coffee or wine. Replacing them costs €50–80 per metre and freshens up the whole kitchen.

6. Avoid direct sun on fronts

If possible: curtain or shade against early morning sun. UV exposure of 3+ hours a day accelerates discolouration. For homes where this isn't possible: choose a kitchen with UV-resistant finish (Schüller's Matera is strong here).

7. Ask explicitly about a maintenance kit at purchase

At Keukenoutlet we include a maintenance kit with every kitchen: microfibre cloth, pH-neutral cleaner and an instruction card. Keep it in a drawer somewhere — you'll reach for it sooner than you think.
